I pre-ordered this as soon as I heard about it (I'm on your brother's mailing list). I have always pinpointed the moment that I decided to commit to writing as the week I read DRY and then RUNNING WITH SCISSORS back to back. Although I don't write memoir, there is still a degree of courage necessary to write emotion. To this day, I don't believe I've ever reacted to books in quite the way that I have to Augusten Burroughs. I can't think of another writer who has revealed so much pain. Despite the humorous tone his other works have taken, there something at the heart of his work that is deeply painful and beautiful. I am actually almost afraid to read this new one.

Great article. I've been waiting for this book eagerly. I am also planning to catch Augusten's stop in Chicago on his book tour next month. I'm really looking forward to having an opportunity to meet him.

It's a great article John. I love that it depicts how no two people have the exact same experience even of the same events. It is also a bit scary as a memoir writer.

Thanks for sharing the link to his story. (well, it's your story too)

I agree with Lisa when she says she hasn't reacted to books in quite the same way as Augusten Burroughs. There is such dark, pure emotion. It's very hard to look at straight on. But to avert one's eyes is dishonest.

I will be buying his book.

Hi, John. I read the article over breakfast yesterday. Wow, that's some publicity. I plan to read the book. It might be one of those that I have to pick up and put down a lot. I gravitate to light-hearted entertainment. I'm guessing that's the next aisle over? :)

I wasn't aware that you too had written a book. I plan to pick up your book and your brother's new book. I am a huge fan of Augustens. I have all of his other books. I think what you are doing as far as the research is great. I am participating in research of my own. Good luck to you. My 26 y.o. son has a friend with Asperger's (sp?). I find this condition quite interesting. Looks like I'll be a fan of yours too. I've bookmarked your blog as well. We all have challenges in life. Keep up the good work.
