Preview of my episode on Discovery Science and my tour schedule

I'll be at Ivymount. Can't wait to read your new book!
Hi, John - I was so excited when I saw that you were going to be profiled on the science channel. I recorded the series. The first two segments were absolutely fascinating! Can't wait to see yours too.

Johm, I just finished your book, Look Me in the Eye. I thoroughly enjoyed every word. Thank you!
I am a middle school teacher. I teach self-contained students. Yes, some of my students are struggling young adults with Aspergers,Autism, and a variety of other diagnosis. Today, I handed your book over to one of my students. I know he will connect with your stuggle of learning to communicate - an others learning to communicate back.
I just wanted to reach out to you and say, "Thank You! Thank YOU!"
Respectfully,
Ms Gueths

John:

I saw your episode on the Science Channel's 'Ingenious Minds' and although I don't have anywhere near your technical genius, I was able to relate to everything you've experienced being a social outcast who is more comfortable with technology than people.

The symptoms of Asperger's described in the show echo a lot of the symptoms I have. I'm also being treated for chronic depression and had to give up being a piping/mechanical designer and CAD programmer/manager as a result of whatever it is I have. At my next doctor's appointment, I'm going to bring up Asperger's again and the TMS therapy is intriguing. I like the fact that it appears more selective in its approach than old fashioned electro-shock treatments with its sledgehammer philosophy.

For what it's worth, I'm a few months older than you and congratulations on your success.

Matt
John,

I just reviewed your tour schedule, and was saddened to see that you were in Seattle (my hometown) late last month. My 7 year old son (who also has Aspergers) is a huge fan of yours. I have known he was on the spectrum since he was 16 months old, and could read the NY Times, but also had trouble looking people in the eye, making friends, and was hyper focused on one thing for many years. (the solar system, and the elements. At four, he would say, "Mom, I just do not think you understand how intertwined these worlds are!" He was administered an IQ test, and they ran out of test for him, which puts him into the profoundly gifted arena, but being gifted does not mean much if you cannot share what you know and like with age peers or intellectual peers, because you are social unable to do so. I am a private music instructor, and I mainly take on students who are 2e (mostly gifted and on the spectrum). It is so important for my son and my students to see role models like you and Temple Grandin who can impress upon these kids that yes...it gets better, with a lot of hard work. Thank you for your books (my son and I read them both...I screened them for content before letting him read appropriate passages of your first book, but your second book has really been inspiring for him.) and for your segment on the Discover Channel. Thank you so much for your bravery and diligence. My son's generation needs your legacy to keep them going.
