I'll be at Coolidge Corners in Brookline tonight and tomorrow - stop by

We'll be screening Billy The Kid in Boston, and director Jenniffer Venditti and I will be discussing the film. We're doing this with our friends at the Asperger Association of New England.

Q&A is set up for after the 4:45PM 7:15PM and 9:30PM shows on both Friday and Saturday

Also . . .

I'm a finalist for the Books for a Better Life award, given out February 25 in New York City. I'll be attending the award ceremony and you're welcome to join me.

And in other news . . .

Look Me in the Eye has found an Indonesian publisher. Look for my book there in 2009. I'll also have editions for China, Brazil, Portugal, Germany, The Netherlands, Italy next year, plus the foreign editions that appear this summer.

Look Me in the Eye's British edition is on sale in just two more weeks.

And there's a separate mention for Australia, where I'm hanging on to #6 on Random House's non-fiction bestseller list, four months after publication

NON-FICTION TOP TEN
CHILDREN'S TOP TEN
1.
ERIC CLAPTON: THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY by Eric Clapton
2.
THE GOD DELUSION by Richard Dawkins
3.
LIFE AND TIMES OF THE THUNDERBOLT KID by Bill Bryson
4.
THE 4- HOUR WORK WEEK by Timothy Feriss
5.
SALVATION CREEK by Susan Duncan
6.
LOOK ME IN THE EYE: MY LIFE WITH ASPERGER'S by John Elder Robison
7.
A SHORT HISTORY OF NEARLY EVERYTHING by Bill Bryson
8.
DOWN UNDER by Bill Bryson
9.
AWW: KITCHEN by Women's Weekly Australian
10.
TAKE 5 INGREDIENTS by 5 Magazine Take

And for all who complain about the cost of books in America . . . my Australian edition costs $35 (Aus) in paperback, which is $31 (US) at current exchange rates. And that's typical for books like mine. Despite that, Australia has more avid readers as a percentage of population than the USA and many other countries.

Your book is invaluable to those of us attempting to understand ourselves and those we love!

CONGRATULATIONS on being a finalist for the Books for a Better Life award.

Well your book is pretty affordable at Amazon anyway. Worth every penny regardless. Congratulations on being on the top ten list for Random house and for being a finalist for the award. Best wishes to you as you make your public appearances...

J, I wasn't really clear about the meaning of my comment on the Australian price.

What I meant was this: Books in general cost more in Australia, yet a higher percentage of the popluation reads them. Why?

And thanks, Dana, for your support too
Congratulations John! You're continued success is an inspiration.
That was supposed to be 'your'.

Congrats on your nomination! I hope you win!

They grow 'em smart down under.

I actually understood you the first time. It was me (in my typical morning fogginess) who was not being clear. I was trying to say Americans shouldn't use price/expense as an excuse not to read because we have options. (Kudos to Australia for not using price as an excuse.) Anyway, I also was trying to pay you a compliment in my own quirky style. : )

Gosh, I haven't been back to see you in so long, and here I am to see how far you've come. Good job. So happy to see it. #6...huge. BTW: I did read your book and failed to report back. It is witty, intelligent, and hilarious from one paragraph to the next. I didn't want to put it down. B4 I read it, I knew nothing of Asperger's. Now, I'm just plain impressed. You really are a unique bird with a disease that should have stifled you in so many ways. Kudos to you for being a survivor and making it happen.

Congrats on being a finalist for the Books for a Better Life award! That is wonderful and so deserved.

I loved your book. I have an Aspie 4 1/2 year old daughter and she has made my life much better indeed.

Thanks for writing your book and being such an inspiration to others. And thanks for writing your blog, too.

Congratulations John. Seems like things are going well, glad the book is being received so well.

I'm hoping that the public libraries will put your book on their "to buy" lists. If mine hasn't, I'll be sure to donate mine.

By the way, over on my blog, MelanieO. has written about the frustrations of trying to raise and find services for an adult son with mental illness.

Hi John, my daughter Kate and I met you in DC at "Billy the Kid". Your book changed my life. Kate is a 25 year old Aspergian and your book helped me see the world through her eyes and opened up some fantastic conversations. I'm also a principal of a 1000 student elementary school with many unique individuals. I love and appreciate them all even more because of getting to know your trials as a child. Thank you so much.

John.
Regarding the cost of books in Australia. That's why I'm a fan of Uncle Jeff Bezos. Long live the good ship Amazon.com and all who sail on her. Also Amazon is where I can cirumvent the Scientology imposed non-stocking of Tom Cruises unauthorised biography.

Oh, and as to why we read more books as a % of the population....we get all the cheap TV programmes from the US....and trust me, they encourage literacy.
